Data Engineer 

About the vacancy

Our Development and Operations Team is committed to ensuring the continuous safety, security, and performance of all Thirona hardware and software systems. The team conducts daily system maintenance and guides the deployment of new systems to the organization within the framework of defined policies and code of Conduct. 

As an important team member, you will lead the efforts of developing useful data systems for our research team and beyond. In this role, you work closely with our Deep Learning Engineers and Software Development teams to ensure that high-quality, compliant, and scalable medical imaging data is available where and when it matters.

In this role you will 

  • Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure to accelerate and improve AI model training, data selection, data analysis and reporting for medical imaging and related data 
  • Support the end-to-end data lifecycle, including acquisition, transfer, quality assurance, versioning, and archival of large-scale datasets 
  • Develop standard operation procedures for handling and archiving data, to ensure consistency, traceability, and usability of datasets 
  • Ensure secure, compliant, and auditable handling of data in line with regulatory requirements and Thirona Quality Management and Information Security System 
  • Assess, make recommendations and update hardware, software, and data storage infrastructure 

Your Profile:  

  • Master’s degree in data science, Computer Science or a related technical field 
  • 3+ years of experience in databases, data management and ETL (extract, transform, load) in a professional setting 
  • Highly skilled in programming in Python 
  • Initiative to work from the ground-up and strong sense of ownership 
  • An eye for detail and a structured approach to organization 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to define requirements and incorporate feedback from stakeholders. 
  • Experience working with large-scale medical image datasets and strong knowledge of medical imaging data and standards (e.g. DICOM) is preferred 
  • Experience with AI/ML development workflows is a strong plus

  • Potential start date: September 1st 

Practical Information

  • Your primary workplace will be our office in Nijmegen
  • This position is preferably full-time; part-time employment can be discussed
  • You will receive 27 vacation days per year, based on a 40-hour contract
  • In addition, you will receive 8% holiday allowance, paid annually in May
  • We provide an 8% pension contribution and offer access to a flexible pension scheme
  • You are expected to live within approximately one hour travel distance from Nijmegen
  • An EU passport or a valid EU work permit is required for this position
