Clinical Expert Training Program on AI-Driven QCT in Severe Asthma Management

Thirona has partnered with the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) to launch, in collaboration with Sanofi, an educational initiative designed to familiarize clinical specialists with AI-enabled quantitative CT (QCT) analysis in severe asthma. The program supports pulmonologists in understanding how advanced imaging-based analysis methods can provide deeper insights into disease presentation and variability.

Through this collaboration, Thirona and SEPAR aim to raise awareness and explore the value of LungQ in complementing current clinical decision-making in severe asthma.

Project highlights

  • 200 pulmonologists across Spain specializing in severe asthma to gain experience with LungQ® analysis
  • Aggregated data generated throughout the project will contribute to broader epidemiological research efforts led by SEPAR

Contribution by Thirona

Within the project, Thirona provides advanced quantitative CT (QCT) analysis using its LungQ® BA (bronchial analysis) and LungQ® MP (mucus plug analysis) methods, generating objective insights into structural and functional lung changes from CT scans of severe asthma patients.

Key measurements include:

  • total lung volume (global and per lobe)
  • bronchial wall thickness
  • bronchial dilation
  • airway count
  • total mucus plug count and volume

All outputs are integrated into a single, consolidated patient-specific report, enabling a comprehensive and standardized characterization of disease presentation from CT imaging.
